A 2007 2% for Odorhei Campaign poster

History and Past Programs
The roots of our Foundation date to August, 2005, when a flash flood tore through our region.  The flooding left 11 dead and destroyed numerous villages.  In the aftermath, several local businessmen joined together to bring food, fresh water and supplies to families.  The floods taught us an important lesson.  First, we need a more efficient way to respond to community concerns and second, we can respond to local needs by working together.  These realizations sowed the seeds of the Odorheiu Secuiesc Community Foundation (or SzKA, the Székelyudvarhelyi Közösségi Alapítvány in Hungarian).

In December 2007, SzKA became the first registered Community Foundation in Romania but we effectively began programming in 2006 with the national award winning 2% for Odorhei Campaign.  In January 2008 SzKA held its first official granting round with the Ön Dönt (You Choose) Campaign and we look forward to expanding our programming this year into further granting cycles and a scholarship fund for Odorhei Youth.
